Thomas brings energy and expertise to middle school programming, focusing on social-emotional learning and academic rigor. As Middle School Dean and humanities teacher, he works with students during what is often the most challenging and transformative period of their educational journey. Thomas understands that middle schoolers need both structure and freedom, high expectations and compassionate support. He creates a classroom environment where students feel safe taking intellectual risks, asking difficult questions, and developing their own identities.
Thomas holds a bachelor's degree in History from Amherst College and a master's degree in Education from Stanford University. He has taught at Meridian for nine years and has become a beloved figure in the middle school community. His teaching style is engaging and dynamic, incorporating Socratic seminars, project-based learning, and real-world connections. Thomas is particularly passionate about helping students develop critical thinking skills and the ability to see multiple perspectives.
He regularly incorporates current events into his curriculum and encourages students to grapple with complex social and ethical issues. As Middle School Dean, Thomas oversees advisory programs, coordinates student activities, and serves as a key liaison between families and the school. He has implemented restorative justice practices and social-emotional learning curricula that help students navigate the social challenges of adolescence. Thomas is known for his sense of humor, his genuine interest in his students' lives, and his ability to inspire academic excellence while maintaining a supportive and inclusive classroom culture.
Outside of school, Thomas enjoys coaching youth soccer, playing guitar, and exploring the outdoors with his family.
