Coach Rodriguez oversees the athletic program and coaches varsity basketball, emphasizing sportsmanship and teamwork. As Athletic Director, he manages all aspects of Meridian's athletics, including scheduling, facility management, coaching staff, and team travel. He is passionate about creating an athletic program that values both competitive excellence and personal growth. Coach Rodriguez holds a bachelor's degree in Physical Education from the University of California, Los Angeles, and a master's degree in Sports Management from the University of Southern California.
He has over 20 years of coaching experience at the high school and college levels. Before joining Meridian eight years ago, he coached basketball at a Division II college and worked as an assistant athletic director at a large independent school. Coach Rodriguez believes that athletics teach valuable life lessons: discipline, perseverance, teamwork, and resilience. He emphasizes that winning is important, but character development is paramount.
Under his leadership, Meridian's athletic teams have achieved competitive success while maintaining the school's values of sportsmanship and respect. Coach Rodriguez has expanded the athletic program to include more opportunities for students of all skill levels, including recreational teams and intramural sports. He has also strengthened partnerships with local sports organizations and coaches to provide specialized training and development opportunities. As varsity basketball coach, Coach Rodriguez has built a program that consistently competes at a high level while fostering a positive team culture.
His players respect him for his knowledge of the game, his commitment to their development, and his genuine care for them as individuals. Outside of school, Coach Rodriguez volunteers with youth basketball leagues and runs summer basketball camps. He is also involved with organizations that promote sports participation among underserved youth. His leadership has made athletics a central and valued part of the Meridian experience.
