Meridian's parent volunteer program has grown to over 200 active participants who contribute thousands of hours annually, enriching programs and strengthening connections between school and home.
Volunteers support diverse activities: assisting in classrooms, chaperoning field trips, organizing events, serving on committees, and sharing professional expertise. Parent coordinator Jennifer Wu ensures everyone finds meaningful ways to participate based on their interests, skills, and availability.
"Some parents can volunteer regularly during school hours, while others prefer evening events or remote projects," Wu explained. "We value all contributions, from one hour to ongoing commitments."
The Career Connections program brings parent professionals into classrooms to share their experiences and insights. Recent speakers included an environmental engineer, surgeon, graphic designer, and documentary filmmaker. Students gain exposure to diverse career paths and make valuable networking connections.
Parent volunteers also coordinate the annual auction, largest fundraiser supporting financial aid and enrichment programs. Last year's event raised over $150,000, ensuring Meridian remains accessible to families from all economic backgrounds.
"Volunteering lets me stay connected to my daughter's education and the school community," shared parent Maria Santos. "I've made wonderful friendships and feel truly part of Meridian's mission."
